I still love the smell of paper

BUT I wanted an eReader from the first day I laid eyes on Leigh Ann’s back in July.  I’m not tech type person and really couldn’t care less for the new gizmos and gadgets that come out, but the eReader made me drool.   I love to read.  Granted since a certain someone showed up I haven’t had much time to do so.  But now that she’s getting older she will entertain herself for a while and I might be able to get a few pages in here and there.

I decided to get the Kobo eReader actually if you’ve clicked the link the lilac one is the one I have.  At first I had ordered it, and noticed that it would be delivered by the 24th of the month.  Uh huh…really… a week…. SOOOOOOOOO instead today I went out for a little ride with Isabella to the closest Chapters store and just out and out bought one, plus a case to carry it in so it doesn’t get scratched up in my purse.  I haven’t cancelled the order for the other one because in a moment of infinate wisdom, I realized my mom is an avid reader and my mom’s birthday is next month… hey hey!   Sure we’ll have the same one but I’ll get her a different colour carrying case.

I went with the Kobo over the Kindle because of some recommendations from friends on Facebook and some serious online comparing.  I heard that Amazon will lock out some Canadian users when trying to get certain books and that you can only use the Kindle with Amazon.  The price was slightly less for the Kindle (a whopping 10 bucks oooohhhh).   I get is also comes with fancy features, but if I wanted all those fancy features so that it works like a computer then I’d get an ipad.  The Kobo is simple, cheap, and I can add more memory to it.  I don’t care that it doesn’t have touch screen or a keyboard, I’m reading not writing an email.  So all in all the Kobo being the best option for me.

I’ve already downloaded 3 books and not one cost me more the 10.00.  I got one promotional coupon to use and searched the web for others.  I did manage to find 2 more coupons so in total I saved about 5.oo on the three books for the reader.  But if you look how much the paper books cost I saved over 25.00, pretty sad eh?

Sure I like the smell of a new book and the feel of paper.  But I also have a kid that loves to rip pages out of books or eat them.  And books are getting heavy and they weigh down the purse.  I can bring the reader with me anywhere I go and have at it.  I’ll probably still buy the occasional book depending on what it is, but the fact I can now go online and get my new book with in seconds is right up my alley!  I’ve never been a patient one, hence buying the eReader before waiting to get the one I previously ordered.

So to those on FB that gave me opinions on eReaders I thank you!  Now that I have it I can’t wait to start on those books!  I just need a little light for the bedroom so I can read while Isabella sleeps.

About Melissa

This is my "start over" blog. I had moved to the Netherlands for 2.5 years and found that it wasn't for me. I guess I'm too much of a Canadian at heart. So now I'm here in Canada with my toddler daughter who was actually born in NL. My dog is with my dad enjoying the good life and I am here trying to start over and get my life back.

  1. The reader looks awesome 🙂 There are ton of places where you can download ebook torrents for free. I get all mine that way!
